Rule 90. Form of oath or affirmation to witness
Chapter XII · Examination of witnesses and issue of Commissions
90.1 The rule
Oath shall be administered to a witness in the following form: “I do swear in the name of God or solemnly affirm that what I shall state shall be truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth”.
90.2 What it does
Rule 90 fixes the words. It says nothing about who must be sworn, who administers, or what follows from a lie — those come from r.45 and r.88, from r.92, and from s.111(4) of the Act read with the Oaths Act, 1969.
